206: Investing in Yourself With Wildlife Artist Priya Gore and Miriam Schulman

2022 IP Podcast - Episode 206 - Priya Gore - rectangle

with host artist Miriam Schulman

“When you invest in yourself, the universe invests in you.” -unknown

Becoming wildly successful does not happen by chance or accident. Success isn’t something most people just stumble into, but it is something many of us can make a reality. You have to be willing to put in the work it takes to achieve greatness, and it starts with investing in yourself.

Today’s guest, Priya Gore, comes from an engineering background and a family of doctors that wouldn’t readily accept a career in art as a successful choice, and yet Priya is living life as a wildlife artist out of Australia.

In this podcast, you will discover…

Key Highlights of a Successful 6-Figure Career in Art

  • Priya invested in herself with the Artist Incubator Coaching Program 1st
  • She is allowing herself to focus on a style and genre
  • Being a niched artist allows you to build series that interests collectors
  • Having an advertising budget creates higher revenue opportunities
  • You have to focus on production 80% of the time to hit new levels of success
  • Enjoying the process is a must for the ultimate experience

“Having a niche, and really understanding what that is, and a focus style will make you more successful…”

-Miriam Schulman

In this episode, Priya unpacks in great detail how she’s been able to generate a 6-figure income selling art to collectors through the Australian based company Blue Thumb. When you consider her advertising budget, how she’s strategically increasing her individual art sales, growing her base of collectors and that she started with investing in a coaching program, her success as an artist looks less coincidental and more tactical in how she’s approaching art as a business. When you invest in yourself, other people will get behind you. This is how Priya’s advertising dollars with Blue Thumb are being maximized.

“I don’t think it’s about easy or challenging, but it’s just about that I enjoy the process.”

-Priya Gore

About Priya

Priya Gore’s extraordinary paintings of birds and wildlife are breathtaking. Her paintings are full of color, vibrancy, and energy. She says painting large allows her whole body to become fully engaged in the flow and gesture of painting. The process of painting is like a joyous dance, each lyrical movement breathes life into the birds that are often the subject of her art.

It was against improbable odds that Priya would become the artist she is today. She came from a large family in a small village in India. In India, she says much of your future is already decided before you are conceived – either you must become a doctor or an engineer. Though as a young child she had a deep love for art, she became an engineer. Despite the challenges of a highly technical career, she sought out time to sketch wherever her work took her.

She eventually settled in Australia where she currently resides. The Australian wilderness and its unimaginable landscapes, tropical rainforests, and diversified wildlife inspired her to paint. Now as a new mother, she has finally left her engineering career to pursue as she calls it – “a new bold and beautiful phase” of her life as a full-time fine art painter.

When you see Priya Gore’s beautiful, animated paintings, you easily sense her exuberance. In your mind’s eye, you can see her before the canvas with her brushes applying each dab of paint with a graceful, flowing gesture – imbuing her painting with A Dash of Wilderness!

About the host, Miriam Schulman

In case we haven’t met yet, I’m an artist and founder of The Inspiration Place, where I help other artists learn how to profit from their passion or become better artists. Through online classes, business coaching programs, and a top-ranked podcast, I’ve helped thousands of artists around the world develop their skill sets and create more time and freedom to do what they love. My signature coaching program, The Artist Incubator, helps artists go from so-so sales to sold-out collections.

After witnessing 9/11, I abandoned a lucrative hedge fund job to work on my art full time. Since then, my art and story have been featured in major publications including Forbes, What Women Create, The New York Times, Art of Man, Art Journaling magazine as well as featured on NBC’s “Parenthood” and the Amazon series “Hunters” with Al Pacino. Radically Reinventing Myself (Updated – over a year later)

Part II – Now at age 56 I truly am healthier! Miriam helped me see that I was worthy of having a better life – so much of what she and her guests share is about MINDSET. Without a healthy mindset it’s hard to move forward and make better choices. I have reversed my Type 2 Diabetes, lowered my blood pressure and lost 30 lbs so far (down 140 lbs total) and come off 5 prescription meds. I started taking piano and singing again, I’m learning to paint with watercolors through one of Miriam’s courses and I’ve joined several communities that are helping me to continue my journey to better health, wealth and I’m reinventing who I am. Honestly, it all started by listening to this podcast; Miriam made me realize it was time to stop hiding and playing small. You can choose each day the thoughts you think (we tend to think the same things over and over), choose where to spend your time and energy, choose to practice gratitude, OR you can continue to let life happen to you and let other people make choices for you – very few of which you might like. You are WORTHY of love, good health, and loving relationships. Start listening and I know you will also be inspired to make some positive, radical changes in your own life! (Original 5/13/21 – My Weekly Dose of Inspiration) Miriam’s weekly Inspiration podcast has helped encourage me to think better of myself, to know I am valuable and to realize I need to invest in myself. I am working to transform my health and my life so I live more fully now while also dreaming about who I want to be as I turn 55 years old and beyond. I’m excited to see where I go from here!
