with host artist Miriam Schulman
While I was writing the book proposal for Artpreneur I had to look at what other art books are out there and see how my book could fill a need that these books haven’t. And it was in this process that I came across today’s guest, Jeff Goins.
Jeff is a bestselling author, podcaster, blogger, marketer, speaker, and a few other things. Through his bestselling books, courses, coaching, and speeches, he shares his ongoing journey of transformation, inspiring creators like you to discover your voice and share it with the world. He’s also the founder of Fresh Complaint, a bespoke creative agency that helps thought leaders turn good ideas into big ideas. Among other titles, he wrote Real Artists Don’t Starve, where he debunks the myth of the starving artist with rules for artists who thrive.
“Being seen doing your work is the best marketing an artist can offer.” – Jeff Goins
In this podcast, you will discover…
With everything he’s done, Jeff has made more than a few observations about the world. Here are some common misconceptions about art that he busts today:
- Real artists don’t care about money.
- Real artists don’t need to do any marketing; they just have to make good art.
- Artworks reach a point in creation when they are finished or complete.
“Art is not the thing you create. It is the process by which you create it.” – Jeff Goins
One of the things Jeff shares is that an art is never finished. A book is never done, it’s only due. Books and art belong to a certain point in time, and can never be recreated, even by the artist.
If you want to work with Jeff in bringing your ideas into the world, you can reach him through Fresh Complaint.

About the host, Miriam Schulman
In case we haven’t met yet, I’m an artist and founder of The Inspiration Place, where I help other artists learn how to profit from their passion. Through online classes, business coaching programs, and a top-ranked podcast, I’ve helped thousands of artists around the world develop their skill sets and create more time and freedom to do what they love. My signature coaching program, The Artist Incubator, helps artists go from so-so sales to sold-out collections.
After witnessing 9/11, I abandoned a lucrative hedge fund job to work on my art full time. Since then, my art and story have been featured in major publications including Forbes, What Women Create, The New York Times, Art of Man, Art Journaling magazine as well as featured on NBC’s “Parenthood” and the Amazon series “Hunters” with Al Pacino. Check out my best-selling book with HarperCollins Leadership, Artpreneur, how to make money from your creativity, wherever books are sold. When I’m not in the studio, I split my time between New York City and a farmhouse in the country. I’d love to invite you to check out one of my free resources for art lovers (of every passion level) at schulmanart.com/freebies
