022: Friend of a Friend with David Burkus

with host artist Miriam Schulman

Ever wonder how some artists have thousands of follower while others just a few hundred?

How some people seem to know EVERYONE be EVERYWHERE and have no trouble getting press?

I’ve wondered that too which is why I was surprised to learn that you become famous one person at a time.

If one of your goals is to finally get in a gallery or get noticed by the press, well guess what, you’ve got to meet people.

The reason I invited David Burkus onto the podcast is because I am a business book junkie, and I especially enjoy those that are based on research, like Friend of a Friend. I just finished Friend of a Friend and I wanted to invite David on the podcast so we can dive into some of the finer points that will help artists like me build our networks so we can sell more art. Sound good?

.

In this podcast, you will discover…

  • The psychology of being famous
  • Why you might want to attend that high school reunion after all
  • Why you can skip networking events in order to network even better in more authentic ways

Listener shout out of the week!

“These podcasts are changing the way I think about things. The ‘Making Connections’ podcast with Michael Roderick for instance, clarified the distinction between being a ‘networker’ and a ‘connector’ in a way I had not thought about, and gave excellent tools for making networking a cumulatively productive career building strategy. And I love how Miriam challenges her guests as soon as she hears anything that smacks of generalization or un-thought of gender bias, in a way that really deepens these conversations. Gonna start sharing them in my newsletters and with my clients!”

  1. Miriam, I was just listening to your podcast with David Burkus in the car. It was very insightful about ways to connect with others through networking. I do believe that it will be one of the books that I will be reading this year.
