bring happiness into your decorating

One of the pleasures of being an artist is imagining how you might enjoy the painting in your home. In order to get ideas, I love reading decorating magazines like House Beautiful. Looking at these fabulous homes all over the world, I never fail to get inspired by artfully displayed treasures.

Now those who are clutter adverse, I want to point out that even in Marie Kondo’s best selling book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, she points out that the purpose of getting rid of extra stuff is to enjoy art. In other words, art is not clutter. Art is not the enemy. Art is the source of joy that we need in our homes.

Create Harmony in your Bedroom

For this room view, I took inspiration from Pottery Barn. I love the perfume tray on the dresser, the neat stack of books, the fresh flowers and the jewelry organizer. I chose this display to highlight the art of a butterfly that reads “harmony.” I imagine you getting dressed each morning with a reminder of thoughts of harmony for your day.

Again, using Pottery Barn as a source of  inspiration, the Harmony Butterfly is an integral part of this table scape. I imagine you have a collection of ceramics that you either collected from flea markets or inherited from your grandmother. I imagine this artwork being equally home in a girls’ room or in a young woman’s first apartment… where do you imagine this art?

  1. I love using art to decorate my home! We just moved so it has been fun dragging the pieces all over the house, moving them somewhere else, putting them back where they started, etc. My husband thinks I'm crazy but it makes a real difference for me to have all our art in good homes 🙂

  2. The Harmony butterfly piece hanging on the wall is so pretty – I love the colors. For me, I would like to see it in my bathroom, to add a touch of color and 'happiness.' From your photo, I've always wanted to have a white dresser or armoire in the right room (and decorate around it).

  3. I love to have a well decorated home, but it is something that has never come easy to me. I have gotten better over the years but feel like I still have a long way to go. I love looking at those magazines for inspiration and while I can copy a look I wouldn't ever be able to come up on my own!

  4. I love decorating! I am always changing up my desk and finding new ways to make it more me and more homey! I am such a nerd too, I have lego's all over my desk. Something about my sons toys that make me smile! Now the wall art you have up is beautiful!!!

  5. I love what you did in the room. That white dresser may look simple, but the perfume tray, the vase, the painting and the bangle rack added beauty to it. I just love the harmony painting.

  6. That wall art definitely brought life into that room. Sometimes the most minimalistic furniture and colors in a room…all it needs is one strong piece to liven the enviroment. Great and simplistic way to decor!

  7. Love the wall art I am so scared of white but it's so different and it brightens up a room and you can make it pop. That jewelry wall thing is something I need because my jewelry is all over the place and in no order
