art journal ideas: create a personal mantra

art journal ideas: develop a personal mantra http://schulmanart.blogspot.com/2015/02/art-journal-ideas-create-personal-mantra.html

A great way to keep yourself on track with your goal setting is to develop a personal mantra. In this art blog, I share how I created a personal mantra using my art journal.

For the last two years I have been choosing a word of the year as my one word mantra. This year, I decided to take it one step further and incorporate my word theme into a personal mantra.

In order to facilitate this process, I looked online for quotes incorporating my “one little word”, purpose. (see blog post 2015: A Year of Purpose) One of my favorite go-to quote sites is quotegarden.com I love it because you can search for words or themes to find the perfect quote.

The first few quotes I found were good but not perfect. I put them in my art journal anyway…

My morning mantra: Begin each day with a sense of purpose

Finally, I made up my on mantra: Begin each day with a sense of purpose.
When I am lying around in my bed randomly clicking on my iphone I forcibly remind myself that that activity has no purpose and I repeat to myself “Begin each day with a sense of purpose” this gets me out of bed and started on my day.

  6. Since I live in Buffalo, NY, and since this has been the COLDEST February on record, and since the snow piles are now mountains of dirty, black ice….I would really love to brighten the rest of these winter days with color, brightness and FUN!!

  7. The line-up of artists for this course is fantastic! I'm just getting started and reconnecting with my artsy side. This would be a great an opportunity to learn from talented and passionate artists! And, I love being part of a community that supports artists of all levels…keeping my fingers crossed (but not when I'm painting…giggle).

  8. I've been sort of stuck in an artist block…and yearn to get the creative flow back. I'm open to learning new ideas and connecting with others. I tend to do best working with others instead of on my own…creative community is very healing as well as a catalyst to moving forward and creating again!

  9. I love the idea of all the different teachers, techniques and stories. There are some teachers I already love and some new ones I've always admired so it's a great combination that I hope will reinvigorate my creative practice.

  10. I've had to retire early because of chronic health issues. As a result, I've been exploring creative activities for their therapeutic value and simple pleasure. This course looks like an excellent opportunity to develop and grow this interest. Plus the price fits well in my tight budget. 🙂

  11. I used to draw and cut paper and create all the time. Then I took a long break to adopt a baby and later an almost 7-year-old from China as a single parent. I was working full time from home and homeschooled them as well. This was so worth giving up my art for a while. Now they are in 11th grade and very independent with their schoolwork and I have a little time to do art now. But I feel so overwhelmed when I sit down – so many things you can create – where to start!? And I think mostly I have totally lost confidence in myself – I tried to do a small painting and it just did not turn out as I hoped. This class looks inspiring and excites my imagination, and I feel if I had an actual class to be accountable to, I might could get started again and begin creating again with confidence!

  14. Ahhhh I am excited by EVERY class in this! Yours, Joanna Powell Colberts and Juliette Crane's if I had to pick a few. I am just recovering from a year of major depression and even though I'm getting better I haven't been able to make art yet and I desperately need inspiration. <3
