403: What Art Collectors Are Buying Right Now (and Why)

with host artist Miriam Schulman

If you’re wondering what art collectors are buying right now in 2026, here’s the truth: they haven’t stopped buying, they’ve become more intentional about what they say yes to. I’m seeing this shift clearly through real market data and from artists who are actively selling today, and it comes down to something deeper than trends or pricing. When your work is positioned with clarity, confidence, and a strong emotional connection, it becomes far easier for someone to say yes. This is where the opportunity is right now for artists who want to grow their art business and attract serious collectors.

“Collectors are still buying, but they’re saying yes to very specific kinds of art, and most artists are completely misreading the signals.” – Miriam Schulman

In this podcast, you will learn…

  • Why collectors prefer “livable” art that fits real homes
  • How emotional connection drives art buying decisions more than trends
  • How to remove friction so collectors feel confident buying your work

“The question isn’t, are people buying art? The question is what kinds of art are collectors actually saying yes to in 2026 and why?” – Miriam Schulman

Artists working together at the Chelsea Artpreneur Studio in New York City

Chelsea Artpreneur Studio · New York City

What’s the biggest bottleneck holding your art business back?

Maybe it feels like pricing. Maybe it’s finding the right collectors, choosing the right opportunities, or figuring out what deserves your attention next. Or maybe you can see 3 different directions your business could go, and you’re tired of guessing which one is right.

That’s what we’re working on at the Chelsea Artpreneur Studio, October 28–29 in New York City.

This isn’t a conference or another workshop where you leave with forty new ideas. I’m bringing together a small group of established artists for two days of hands-on strategy built around the actual problems you bring into the room. We’ll look at your business, figure out what’s really holding it back, make the decisions, and map out exactly what comes next.

You’ll also have a professional branding portrait session, plus plenty of time around the table with a small group of artists who take their businesses as seriously as you do.

You’ll leave knowing what’s actually holding your business back, what needs to change, and most of all, what to do next.

  1. You mentioned the importance of trust, and showing reviews. I have a few reviews I recently grabbed via judge.me, but I need more. I heard someone mention grabbing comments off of social media (that read like reviews)–are we allowed to use comments made on our social media accounts on our websites?

  2. Thank you for this awesome podcast episode! Very motivating! I am the most surprised about pricing…and a little bit about size. I thought my 20″ x 20″ I commonly create in might be too large for some people, but now I understand that is on the smaller end, which is great to know.

I am surprised at the pricing as well. My ppsi is too low. Do I just overnight raise my prices, or how should I handle this?
